Detroit River FAQs and Techniques
The Detroit River flows for 28 miles (45 km) from Lake St. Clair to Lake Erie. By definition, this classifies it as both a river and a strait — a strait being a narrow passageway connecting two large bodies of water, which is how the river earned its name from early French settlers. However, today, the Detroit River is rarely referred to as a strait, because bodies of water referred to as straits are typically much wider. Every year millions of walleye make their way to the Detroit River during the spring months to spawn. These spawning grounds have been a hot spot for aggressive spawning walleye for thousands of years, and is the most sought after productive river to catch walleye in the world.
Catching these walleye we use a technique called vertical jigging. Vertical jigging is the most effective way to target these walleye due to the fast moving water in the river. With the guidance of your captain, we will step by step walk you through how to vertical jig and remain in the strike zone at all times. Consistency is key and when a fish hits your jig is a feeling like none other in the world. At No Limits we only use the highest quality equipment and tackle to provide you with the best experience on our trips
